I am primarily interested in the evolution and systematic biology of crustaceans.
Crustaceans are an amazing group of diverse animals ranging from microscopic zooplankton
such as copepods to the larger (and tastier) crabs, shrimps and lobsters. Throughout my
education I have had the opportunity to work with a wide variety of crustaceans.
As a marine science undergraduate at the University of South Carolina I looked at the
phylogeographic relationships of the cosmopolitan harpacticoid copepod Microarthridion
littorale to determine if the species was ubiquitous or instead a sister-species complex.
After earning my Bachelors of Science I entered Florida State University's Graduate Program
in Ecology and Evolution where I worked with Drs. Lawrence Abele and Trisha Spears trying
to tease apart the phylogenetic relationships among a group of crabs called the calappids.
As a result of my Masters research I am now trying to expand the phylogeny of the calappids
to include the oxystomatid crabs.
